Zimbabwean dancehall and Afro-pop artist Taps95 is set to release his new five-track EP, Baba Ndini, on 28 August 2026, with the project exploring love, purpose, ambition and the confidence to own one's moment.
The EP arrives during a busy period for Zimbabwean music, but Taps95 says he is not concerned with competing for attention. For him, Baba Ndini is about stepping into his own.
Speaking to ZimSphere in Harare recently, the rising artist explained that the title carries a deeper meaning than its literal translation might suggest.
“People think Baba Ndini means boss,” Taps95 said. “For me it means responsibility. It is about leading, about talent, about love, and about claiming your season.”
That idea runs through the five songs, with each track offering a different perspective on where the artist is in his life and career.
The EP opens with My Time, a declaration of confidence and ambition. Taps95 describes it as his statement that this is his season to be heard and to finally receive the exposure he has worked towards.
On Katarina, the mood shifts towards the dancefloor. The upbeat track celebrates a woman who commands attention wherever she goes, with Taps95 turning the song into an anthem for the women who bring energy to the party.
Nemoyo moves into more intimate territory, telling the story of two people whose souls connect. It is the project's heartfelt love record, offering a softer side of the artist.
Then comes Zvirimuropa, a reflection on talent and identity. For Taps95, music is not simply something he chose to pursue; it is something he believes is part of who he is.
“My music is in my blood,” he said. “It is a gift no one can take from me.”
The project closes with its title track, Baba Ndini, which brings the EP's central message into focus. Taps95 presents himself as an artist ready to claim his place and take ownership of his musical journey.
The EP also features rising artist Sunoh, bringing together two emerging voices from Zimbabwe's current music scene.
For Taps95, however, Baba Ndini is ultimately about more than his own ambitions.
“This is for the hustlers chasing their dreams, for people in love, and for anyone who knows they were born to do this,” he said. “We are creating music that means something.”
Baba Ndini will be available on major streaming platforms from 28 August 2026.
