SOUNDS IN THE SPHERE: Nasty C teams up with Blxckie for 'Leftie' ahead of new album release

TAKUDZWA HILLARY CHIWANZA

South African rap superstar Nasty C has released a new single titled Leftie which features the inimitable Blxckie. It is a track in which the two artists explore the dichotomy of their unbridled hedonistic pursuits as well as a spirituality that serves to counter this. Though their attempt at the latter is more lukewarm.

Nasty C drops Leftie ft Blxckie as he prepares for new album Free
Nasty C

The release comes ahead of Nasty C's upcoming album, titled FREE – out on 12 September, 2025 – which fans expect will be an exposition of an unhindered Nasty. It is a fair glimpse into what's going to come.

Leftie contains some frenetic rap energy; laden with an unfiltered state of mind from the two rappers. Over a brooding, bass-heavy beat, Nasty C and Blxckie deliver modernistic rap sounds with style. The song is described as "both metaphor and mission," conveying messages about "moving, transforming, and ascending". "Take it from park to drive, take off like a leftie/My exes can't come back to me 'cause I'm not where they left me/My bitch just gave me a baby, I'm watching her breastfeed/All my praises go up to the Most High 'cause he blessed me," Nasty C raps on the chorus.

Blxckie

Blxckie glides with enviable flair on the track, beaming with the typical confidence of a rapper who found success. You could consider him a purveyor of unabashed raps, considering lines such as "And this Prada fit cost me a limb (Haha)" and "She put out her chest, I scribbled her breasty (Ibele)". He also speaks authoritatively when it comes to the supremacy of his sounds: "Walk on beats, I'ma step on the bass". Which is what he precisely does on the song—stepping heavily on that thumping bass. For Blxckie, it is not a matter of whether or not you agree with him. He is just out here to do what he does, he tells us. "Even if Blxckie don't win, ayy/He gon' walk out with a grin, ayy/I'ma step out with a smile on my face (Ye)," he raps, in almost a villainous tone.

Artwork for the album FREE.

This unrestrained aura is probably what will form the core of the upcoming album FREE. According to Nasty C himself, this is the core basis of FREE: "FREE is basically just me feeling like I’m free from external pressures ... Free to create whatever I want and be whoever I want for however long I want to be that person." Expect that independence on the upcoming album.
