CHIRUNDU-based hip-hop artist Innocent Stambuli, better known by his moniker Sinbad 90, has officially released a crisp new single accompanied by a vibrant video titled Gangster Bae.
The track showcases a deliberate sonic departure from his previous drops, fusing core elements of rap, Afro-dance, and dancehall as the artist sets his sights beyond Zimbabwean audiences.
Speaking to The Zimbabwe Sphere, Sinbad 90 outlined the concept behind the title, explaining that the track offers a lighthearted critique of contemporary social culture.
“I created a character to match what some of these young girls pretend to be, yet they’re not close to being gangster,” he revealed. “To me, a Gangster Bae is a beautiful girl who usually hangs around public figures—a groupie, if you know what I mean.”
Musically, Gangster Bae serves as a vehicle for Sinbad 90 to experiment with cross-genre appeal, combining local lyricism with rhythms aimed directly at global dancefloors.
“This song is a mixture of hip-hop/rap with a bit of Afro-dance and dancehall,” the rapper explained. “I’m trying to create a unique sound for my brand. I’ve shifted from targeting local audiences to focusing more on the global stage. Music is universal and spiritual, and I want anyone to enjoy the vibe regardless of language or where I’m from.”
Behind the infectious rhythm lies a clear message directed at young women navigating modern nightlife culture. Sinbad 90 highlighted a specific bar from the track that anchors the song's underlying theme: “Usanwe gas pasina feederz, gara uri neat, tsikirira maAdidas, usawanze papaz.”
Unpacking the line, he added: “It’s advice for the girl child. If they truly want to be a 'gangster bae,' they have to stay clean and prioritize self-care rather than damaging their health for short-lived fun.”
The accompanying visuals, shot by Home Made Pictures and directed by Director Divalex, places Sinbad 90 in a high-energy club setting.
Interestingly, there is behind-the-scenes moment that ended up making for a special shoot. Despite a minor hurdle on set when the scheduled cast failed to arrive on time, spontaneous problem-solving turned the shoot around.
“All the video vixens we booked failed to show up on time,” Sinbad 90 shared. “Since everything was set, we ended up inviting one of the bartenders from the club, and with no hesitation, she killed the role of ‘Gangster Bae’ way beyond our expectations. Big shout-out to Sharon for coming through.”
With Gangster Bae now circulating across digital streaming platforms, club rotations, and social media networks, Sinbad 90 is already laying the groundwork for his next move.
While keeping final release timelines under wraps, the Chirundu-bred lyricist confirmed that he is actively working on a larger body of work, teasing the project's tentative title, PFUMA.
