The Zim Hip Hop Awards have officially opened submissions for the 2026 edition, with Zimbabwean hip hop now entering its 16th year of having a dedicated awards platform.
This year’s theme is NEXUS, built around the connections between the culture’s past, present and future — from the pioneers who laid the groundwork to the artists, producers, DJs, writers and other creatives pushing the sound forward. The idea is also to connect the hip hop community with brands, industry players and the wider global music ecosystem.
Submissions open today, 21 September, and close on 31 October 2026. The eligible release period runs from 1 November 2025 to 31 October 2026, with commercially released singles, albums and music videos eligible for consideration. Artists, managers, labels, producers, distributors and authorised representatives can submit through the official ZHHA nomination portal.
The 2026 programme includes The Next Headliner, a talent discovery initiative that will see two artists win slots as ZHHA Headliners; From Community to the Main Stage, which takes music, hip hop, dance and poetry into communities; and ZHHA Freestyle Friday, a showcase built around bars, presence, originality and live energy rather than polished singles.
There is also Zim Hip Hop Indaba, a networking and industry forum scheduled for the day before the main awards event. The idea is to get artists, producers, DJs, managers, media, brands and other stakeholders in the same room to talk about where the culture is going, share industry knowledge and create actual opportunities for collaboration and development.
Sixteen years in, ZHHA is framing NEXUS around connection; between generations, between the underground and the established industry, and between Zimbabwean hip hop and the wider music business.
For artists, though, the immediate business is simple: if you released eligible music or a music video during the qualifying period, submissions are now open.
The window runs until 31 October 2026.
