BULAWAYO – Zim hip hop artist Edson Joseph Kamtinte, known by his stage name Jxmmi Draxler, is calling on young people to embrace hard work without shame in his latest single, I Need Money.
Speaking with ZimSphere, Draxler shared the message behind the track, emphasizing the importance of perseverance and dignity in any form of work.
“My story behind my latest single ‘I Need Money’ is that youths must work hard and should not be ashamed or afraid of their work which puts food on their tables. Whatever it may be, either selling shoes or selling tomatoes,” he said.
He encouraged young people to stay active and focused, warning against idleness.
“Youths must keep their minds and selves busy because no one is going to put food on their tables without getting busy,” he added.
Draxler believes the song speaks directly to everyday hustlers and those facing tough times.
“I believe my single inspires a lot of people especially those who wake up and hustle every day and also those who have depressions in the streets. The single gives them power to never give up on their work. If they fail today, then tomorrow is another day.”
Looking ahead, Draxler promised to release a new song every first week of the month this year. He says his goal is to use his music to share important messages and build a sustainable career.
“My goals in my career are to spread different messages to the whole world through my art and do good music,” he said.
“Also, I am aiming to do business with music that will make me survive and bring food to the table for my family.”
He hopes to achieve these goals through streaming his music on social media and collaborating with brand managers who appreciate his work.
When asked how he balances staying true to his artistic vision while appealing to a wider audience, Draxler said he draws inspiration from fellow musicians and real-life stories.
“I keep myself motivated by listening to other artists who have achieved something with their works and being real in the place I am living in. Also, seeing life that each and everyone lives on a daily basis,” he explained.
“Also true stories that we see and are told in the ghetto.”
One of his proudest accomplishments so far is investing in his own recording studio.
“My greatest achievement so far in my career was buying my new studio equipment because I am no longer wasting some cash for recording in some other studio.”
Regarding criticism, Draxler keeps a calm and focused attitude.
“I just keep my mouth shut. I don't reply to negative things from people who criticize my work. I just keep doing my thing for people who love it,” he said.
He also highlighted the vital role of social media in promoting his music.
“I believe social media is playing an important role in circulating my music. It is a good thing to use social media because if you don’t use it, you won’t get your music published to a whole circle.”
