ENTEBBE – Zimbabwe Women secured a commanding 86-run victory over Namibia Women, earning themselves a spot at the ICC Women’s T20 Cricket World Cup Qualifier Global 2024. Despite still having to play a final against either Uganda or Tanzania, both finalists will secure the last two slots for next year’s event.

Zimbabwe got off to a strong start when they were put in to bat, with the opening pair putting on 41 runs before captain Mary-Anne Musonda was dismissed for 22. The following partnership between Modester Mupachikwa and Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano added 52 runs before Mupachikwa was bowled for 33. Mugeri-Tiripano also departed for 25, falling victim to Arasta Dieergardt.

Despite wickets falling around her, Ashley Ndiraya helped Zimbabwe reach a competitive total of 150 for the loss of six wickets. In response, Namibia struggled and were bowled out for just 64 runs, with only Eddelle van Zyl (23) and Diegaardt (10) reaching double figures.

Veteran player Precious Marange impressed with three wickets for just nine runs in her four overs, while record wicket-taker Nomvelo Sibanda and vice-captain Josephine Nkomo each grabbed two wickets.

Zimbabwe will now aim to complete a perfect campaign in the final, but regardless of the outcome, they will be thrilled with their qualification for the event.
