His appointment comes after the club decided not to renew the contract of Portuguese coach Baltemar Brito which is set to expire on the 31st of December 2023. Brito is now the coach of Zimbabwe's men's national football team.

Highlanders Football Club expressed their delight in welcoming Kaindu back to the club, highlighting his previous experience both as a player and as a coach for the team.

“Highlanders Football Club is delighted to announce Kelvin Kaindu as the head coach for the club’s first team,” Highlanders said in a statement.

“Kaindu is not new to the club, having previously played for Highlanders in 1997, before he was entrusted with the Bosso dugout between 2012 and 2014.

“The entire management and the club would like to extend a warm welcome to Kaindu and wish him all the best as he opens yet another chapter with Highlanders Football Club.”

Having faced a tumultuous season in which they led at the top for the first half of the season, only to monumentally in the other half, Kaindu is expected to usher in new fortunes at the club.

Kaindu's task as the head coach of Highlanders will be mostly premised on leading the team to its former glory, and strive to bring back the premiership title, which the club has not won since 2006.
