HARARE – Zimbabwe's cricket team is gearing up for the highly anticipated ICC Men's T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier for the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup, set to take place in Namibia. As the only full member nation participating in the tournament, the Chevrons enter as the favorites, but they refuse to underestimate the competition and are determined to secure qualification without any major hiccups.

The hosts, Namibia, are expected to pose a strong challenge to Zimbabwe's aspirations. Having tasted success against Zimbabwe in the past, Namibia will be motivated to make their mark on home soil. However, it's not just Namibia that the Chevrons need to watch out for.

Teams like Kenya and Uganda have shown potential to cause upsets, with Uganda recently impressing during their tour of Zimbabwe by defeating local sides, including Takashinga Sports Club and an Under 25 select team.

Zimbabwe's hopes will rest on the shoulders of their seasoned all-rounder, Sikandar Raza. Raza, who was named player of the tournament in the previous qualification event, will provide the much-needed leadership and experience to guide the team to success.

Alongside Raza, the Chevrons boast a wealth of talent and experience, including the likes of Blessing Muzarabani, Sean Williams, Craig Ervine, and Tendai Chatara. With such an impressive lineup, coach Dave Houghton radiates confidence in his team's ability to secure qualification.

The road to the T20 World Cup won't be easy, though. In the round-robin tournament, the top two teams will secure a coveted spot in the prestigious World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States and various Caribbean islands. The Chevrons will have to navigate through a series of challenging fixtures, where each match carries immense significance.

Zimbabwe's fixture list for the T20 World Cup Africa qualifiers in Windhoek is as follows:

  • Nov 22: Zimbabwe vs Namibia
  • Nov 23: Zimbabwe vs Tanzania
  • Nov 26: Zimbabwe vs Uganda
  • Nov 27: Zimbabwe vs Rwanda
  • Nov 29: Zimbabwe vs Nigeria
  • Nov 30: Zimbabwe vs Kenya

The cricketing world eagerly awaits the outcome of these clashes, as Zimbabwe seeks to solidify its standing in the T20 arena and secure a place in the prestigious World Cup.
