Harare-based gospel musician Overseer Muchenu has released his new, seven-track, seventh album, titled Machirerutsa.
The album's name, Machirerutsa, is a direct, God-inspired message calling people to repent and cautioning them against false prophets within the church.
"The album name is God inspired to send a message to his people to repent, and be warned about church men and women who wear sheep's coats when they are actually wolves, as they are selling the Gospel when God said it should be free," Overseer Muchenu explained in an interview with ZimSphere.
Beyond the core warning, the album tackles several critical issues, aiming to be a force for spiritual and social good. The musician noted that Machirerutsa speaks out against those who have "despised the gospel" and contains messages of social upliftment.
"The album speaks about how church men and women have despised the gospel, it furthermore it encourages fellow men to unite as one and that unity will bring development among fellow country men," he stated.
"It also uplifts souls and it touches on issues of drugs which we encourage our children to resist from taking drugs."
For Muchenu, the album is a personal milestone that underscores his dedication to his ministry. "This album has helped me to grow spiritually and become even more rooted in God's work," he shared, adding, "My music yes is ministry as we on an outreach to reach more people before the return of our lord Jesus."
The release of Machirerutsa follows a challenging production process marked by financial and professional hurdles.
"We are still growing and we have faced financial shortages and this drags the process of music production backwards," Muchenu admitted. He also cited issues with industry partners: "We also had challenges with recording labels who acted unprofessionally which made our production to take long to finish and in some instances we had to change studios."
The musician has ambitious plans to promote the album and broaden his reach.
"Plans for promoting the album are in place though some needs serious funding," he said.
He confirmed a multi-platform approach: "But we will use social media, radio stations and later we may have land shows around the country to promote this album."
Ultimately, his goals extend far beyond local airwaves. "My aspirations are that my music should reach as many people as possible and that our music ministry goes beyond our borders," he concluded.
Machirerutsa is Overseer Muchenu’s seventh studio album, adding to his existing discography: Ndasuwa Denga, Nyaya Yanetsa, Soja Rakatumwa, Makaronga Don do, Paradiso, and Mununuri.
