HARARE – In the 12th matchday of the 2024 Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League (PSL), Manica Diamonds, also known as the Gem Boys, maintained their lead with a 2-0 victory over Greenfuel.
The team's consistent performance has been instrumental in their success, with 25 points from 12 league games and just one loss.
Harare derby ends in stalemate
The Harare derby, a historic fixture in Zimbabwean football between traditional powerhouses CAPS United and Dynamos, concluded in a 1-1 draw at Rufaro Stadium.
Despite CAPS United's early dominance, they were unable to convert their control into goals. Dynamos' Kevin Moyo scored against the run of play, with Ralph Kawondera netting a late equalizer for CAPS United.
FC Platinum keeps pace with impressive win
FC Platinum, closely trailing in second place with 24 points, secured an impressive 3-1 victory over Hwange.
The team, known as the Platinum Boys, boasts the best goal difference (+10) in the league, providing a solid foundation for a potential title challenge.
After conceding an early penalty goal to Kelly Shiyandindi, FC Platinum rallied with goals from Wilfred Muvirimi, Lawrence Mhlanga, and Davison Marowa.
Other matches
Elsewhere, Highlanders drew 1-1 with ZPC Kariba at Nyamhunga Stadium, with Stanley Ngala and Lynoth Chikuhwa each scoring a goal.
Despite the draw, Highlanders remain a formidable force in the league.
In other matches, Ngezi Platinum defeated TelOne 2-0, while Herentals won by the same margin against Bulawayo Chiefs.
