Father sentenced to 20 years for raping teenage daughter

RUSAPE – A Buhera man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison by a Rusape Magistrate for the heinous crime of raping his 17-year-old daughter. 

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the chilling incident first came to light in September 2023. The victim and her aunt had traveled to their rural home to attend a tombstone unveiling ceremony. 

The father, who had initially instructed his daughter to stay at her aunt's homestead during their absence, returned unexpectedly. He waited until the other children were asleep before creeping into his daughter's room. 

Armed with an okapi knife, he threatened his daughter and committed the unthinkable act, promising to kill her with an axe if she resisted.

The horror didn't end there. The man woke up later that night and violated his daughter again. This cycle of abuse continued daily for a week until the girl returned from the ceremony. 

The crime was finally exposed when the brave young girl confided in her aunt, who informed her husband.

The authorities were promptly alerted, leading to the swift arrest of the accused.
