The Zimbabwe Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match between Dynamos and Highlanders was abandoned on Sunday after fans of the home team invaded the pitch in protest of a referee's decision.

Bosso fans pitch invasion forces Dynamos Dembare match abandonment

Dynamos were leading 2-0 in the first half at Barbourfields Stadium, thanks to goals from Keith Madera and Frank Makarati, when Highlanders fans stormed the field in the 40th minute, claiming that their team was denied a penalty.

Police tried to restore order and clear the pitch, but failed to do so as the fans continued to cause chaos. The match commissioner eventually called off the game after a restart was not possible.

This is not the first time that Highlanders fans have caused trouble at their home ground.

Last year, they also disrupted a match against Chicken Inn, which was also abandoned. Dynamos are likely to be awarded three points for the match, while Highlanders could face sanctions from the league authorities.
