The Monk was inspired by ancient Chinese monks. A monk may be a person who decides to dedicate his life to serving all other living beings, or to be an ascetic who voluntarily chooses to leave mainstream society and live his or her life in prayer and contemplation.

And Joey has an interesting perspective regarding this inspiration.

"What caught my eye is how monks of ancient age believed in a lot of things that society at large didn't adhere to.

I believe my views also are somehow as anomalistic as the monks' views were in the ancient age."

His album is sonically solid, if only his heart was in rhyming. A high concept title like The Monk, one would expect a more coherent conceptual project, nevertheless, dude can spit.

His lyricism maybe his only shortfall but his strength is enunciation and sheer entertainment value. He has an ability to flow uncannily easy and his beat selection is good impressive.
