Zimbabwean artist JoyRukanza is set to release her highly anticipated album, “MatterMoreForSis,” on June 23rd, 2023, coinciding with her birthday. JoyRukanza collaborated with talent from Zimbabwe, South Africa, Tanzania, Croatia, Morocco, Singapore, the UK, and the USA to bring this transformative album to life.

Biography
JoyRukanza displays a long history of learning, growth & upward trajectory in her expertise, knowledge, and experiences in the music industry.
Born Joy Roselyn Rukanzakanza in Bulawayo (artistically known as JoyRukanza), she discovered her musical talent when she led her high school choir through regional competitions as the captain. She is a passionate academic who graduated as a top-performing female student in her city, which resulted in her earning a merit-based scholarship to study at Bryn Mawr College in the United States, where she further pursued her music interests by joining on-campus Chorale ensembles.
JoyRukanza graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in International Studies and an Africana Studies minor. She started her professional career on Wall Street working for BlackRock as a Technology Analyst before transitioning to a product manager role at Microsoft. Joy balances her corporate interests with her burning passion for music, which helps her to continuously evoke intrigue, creativity, and engagement in her daily life.
She is also passionate about community engagement efforts centered around amplifying the value of education. In 2023, Joy received an Outstanding Achievement in Music – Female award, courtesy of ZimAchievers Awards.
Since starting her career, Joy has released three records - Queendom, New Day, and Roses. In addition, she has also released an online performance and executive produced a music festival that showcased up-and-coming Zimbabwean new school talent. Joy released her debut record (New Day) featuring South African multi-award-winning hip-hop sensation KiD X in January 2021.
She followed up by releasing Roses, which premiered on BBC Music before its official release in March 2021. After the success of Roses, she released Queendom in October 2021, alongside a stunning video that was shot in Tanzania and premiered at a Ster-Kinekor movie theater in Zimbabwe. To promote her music, JoyRukanza engaged a billboard advertising company for a brand partnership resulting in one of the first billboards in the city by an independent female artist.
JoyRukanza's music has gained widespread recognition with features on more than five global Apple Music playlists, as well as on several Boomplay and Spotify playlists. The talented artist has also been featured in prominent online publications such as GQ magazine, The Daily Scanner, Texx and the City, TXT, and SlikourOnLife. Furthermore, her music has been featured on renowned international channels such as Clouds TV, MTV Base, Trace Africa, and Channel O.
In honor of her music's positive reception, JoyRukanza rallied her community and launched the JoyRide Initiative, which provided free transportation for over five hundred schoolchildren facing transportation difficulties in the area.
In October 2022, JoyRukanza was one of the first Zimbabweanborn musicians to be invited for a BBC Music cypher courtesy of BBC Music Introducing x BBC Radio 1xtra. The invite-only-based cypher was meant to spotlight talent from upcoming musicians and producers.
