ZIMSPHERE
When business owners in Harare talk about their daily headaches, the conversation usually circles back to three relentless issues: power cuts that kill momentum, inventory leakage, and security risks.
Most companies try to patch these holes by dealing with three or four different vendors—one for solar, another for security cameras, and a third for point-of-sale software.
Orvantis Technologies is changing that. By bringing security, energy, and business management under one roof, they are positioning themselves as the singular technical partner for businesses that cannot afford downtime.
We sat down with the team behind Orvantis Technologies to discuss how they are bridging the gap between high-end tech and everyday operations for Zimbabwean SMEs, retailers, and households.
Q: Many businesses in Harare lose money to theft, power cuts, and inventory shrink. How does Orvantis solve all these problems with one package?
A: At Orvantis Technologies, we bring security, energy, and business management together under one roof. CCTV and alarm systems help protect premises, while solar solutions support essential operations during power cuts.
Through Orvantis POS, we offer Orvaflow Local—our offline POS software that allows retailers to process sales and manage stock without an internet connection. If the internet goes down, business can continue at the counter. Our tracking solutions also extend visibility to vehicles and fleets.
The core benefit is having one technology partner who understands how these different parts contribute to keeping a business secure and operational. We tailor the package to each customer’s specific needs and budget.
Q: Why should a customer trust your systems over cheap imports from downtown or online? What makes your installation and quality different?
A: A reliable system takes more than just buying equipment. The product must suit the job, the installation must be done correctly, and the customer must actually understand how to use it.
Our value is the complete solution: suitable equipment, proper setup, customer guidance, and local support. We want customers to understand what they are buying and have someone they can reach when they need assistance. That is the standard we aim to build the Orvantis name around.
Q: Can you share a real example of a client where you installed your systems and it saved them money or stopped theft?
A: One example is a client operating a liquor store and a grocery store, where we installed CCTV, an alarm system, and an offline POS system.
The CCTV provided round-the-clock visibility and recorded footage for reviewing suspected theft, while the alarm added protection when the premises were unattended. Meanwhile, the offline POS improved sales recording and stock control, allowing the stores to continue processing sales even when the network was down.
The practical result was better oversight, stronger security, and continuity at the counter. While we haven't formally quantified the financial savings, the systems directly helped the owner address specific gaps in monitoring and daily operations.
Q: Most people think solar, drones, and security systems are only for big companies. Do you have packages for small shops, houses, and SMEs?
A: Yes. We cater for homes, small shops, and SMEs as well as larger businesses. We start with the customer’s immediate needs and budget, then recommend an appropriate solution with room to grow.
For a retailer, that could mean starting with Orvaflow Local to manage sales and stock offline. For a household, it could mean security or a solar system sized around essential power needs. Customers do not need to invest in every service at once—our priority is to make each investment useful and suited to their circumstances.
Q: You are one of the few companies in Zimbabwe doing drones together with security and tracking. How are you using drones to help farmers, shops, and security?
A: Through our specialist partner, Orvantis Agri offers crop spraying, crop mapping and monitoring, and security surveillance.
For farmers, these services support crop treatment and provide an aerial view of field conditions. For security operations, drones can support the inspection of larger properties and areas that are difficult to assess from the ground, working alongside fixed cameras and other security measures.
We always recommend drones where they serve a practical purpose. For a small shop, CCTV and stock management may be the more appropriate investment; our role is simply to match the technology to the customer’s actual needs.
