Zimbabwean actress Danai Gurira has been confirmed as part of the voice cast for season four of Amazon Prime’s hit animated series Invincible, where she will make her debut as the character Universa.

The announcement follows the release of new images for the upcoming season, which officially revealed Universa’s introduction into the series. Gurira, best known for her roles as Michonne in The Walking Dead and Okoye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Black Panther franchise, will lend her voice to the formidable new character.

Her casting strengthens the long-standing creative ties between Invincible and The Walking Dead. Both shows were created by Robert Kirkman, and since Invincible premiered in 2021, it has consistently featured actors from the zombie drama across its seasons.

In the comics, Universa is portrayed as a complex anti-hero who initially emerges as a major threat, particularly in storylines involving Atom Eve. With Gurira’s powerful and emotive voice performance, the character is expected to make a strong first impression, with the possibility of her role being expanded beyond the source material.

Gurira’s addition also reunites her with Invincible lead Steven Yeun, her former Walking Dead co-star, while opening up new on-screen dynamics with cast members Gillian Jacobs and Walton Goggins.

Since its debut, Invincible has grown into one of the most acclaimed superhero series of the modern era, and Gurira’s casting positions her as one of the standout new voices to watch in its fourth season.
