Sip, paint and soak in the scenery: A weekend at Masvika Resort

TAKUDZWA HILLARY CHIWANZA

Nestled in the lush, serene surroundings of the mountains in Mazowe, Masvika Resort stands as a hidden gem that brings together an effervescent scenery and a laid-back vibe. Last weekend, the attractive spot was a hive of activity as it hosted its Sip n Paint event, which was an intimate celebration of art, music, and the good life.

A review of Masvika Resort in Mazowe, Zimbabwe.

Located just 7 kilometres from the Mazowe tollgate along the Harare-Mazowe highway, Masvika Resort provides a memorable atmosphere for visitors. One is instantly greeted by the crisp outdoor air and an alluring, picturesque landscape that almost compels you to take innumerable photographs and frame them for eternity. Such is the good selling point of Masvika Resort: a perfect get-away that will furnish you with the enjoyment and rest you long for.

Whether it's for a wedding, a day out with friends or family, or creatives congregating to revel in their art, Masvika Resort ensures it doesn't disappoint in delivering value for your money. The place also offers accommodation, making it an apt setting for those who want to spend some time from their familiar surroundings.

The Sip n Paint event captured the lively spirit of Masvika – intimate, authentic, and refreshingly unpretentious. Although the turnout left much to be desired (the greater majority of artists who were advertised on the poster failed to pull through), the artists who showed up gave it their all. They really made the outing a worthwhile experience through their performances.

Griffin Makwiramiti

There were performances from the amazing songstress SAIIREN, the unparalleled purveyor of rhythm and poetry Griffin Makwiramiti, Liquid (whose dancehall and Afro vibes impressed me for an artist I first knew on the day), and Mutume YB Music, whose brilliant raps had the crowd on their feet for hours. By the time the event ended, I made a solemn promise to myself that I was going to look up Liquid and Mutume YB on my own and fully digest their music.

These artists poured their hearts into their craft, delivering sounds that easily reverberated with the small but lively crowd that graced Masvika Resort on the day. The ever-busy Mussa Effect hosted the proceedings graciously, keeping everything running smoothly from start to finish.

A mix of both locals and visitors from Harare got lost in the cathartic act of painting as they brought their ideas to life on the canvasses. Others showcased their painting acumen, while others simply enjoyed the strokes of creativity. It was a convivial atmosphere worth remembering, aided by the free-flowing wise waters (because that's the ultimate essence of a sip and paint event, right?)

I do however believe there is room for growth at Masvika Resort. Whilst its charm is definitely undeniable, a little more polish could enhance the lustre of the place. A touch of modern-flair and increased marketing would undoubtedly make Masvika Resort a must-visit for both locals and those from other cities and towns. On the overall, Masvika Resort remains a lovely sanctuary where one can get lost in the beauty of Mazowe. If you haven't visited Masvika Resort yet, this is your cue to go and discover it for yourself.
