IN A BID to rejuvenate his career, Zimbabwean forward Tino Kadewere has left Olympique Lyon to join rival French Ligue 1 side Nantes on a loan deal for the remainder of the season. The move, which was one of the earliest reported when the January transfer window opened across European leagues, comes after a challenging stint at Lyon.

Despite receiving game time, Kadewere struggled to find the back of the net consistently at Lyon, ending his run with no goals or assists in 11 substitute appearances.

His performance was further hampered by injuries and non-selection, causing him to miss six games.

Nantes, currently 13th in the 18-team French Ligue One with 18 points from 17 games, has had its own share of struggles. The team has registered six losses in their last eight games, managing to scrape together a mere four points.

In contrast, Lyon sits two places below at 15th with 16 points from 17 matches.

Nantes will host Clermont on January 14 in their next league game of a challenging season.

Kadewere's loan deal includes a low compulsory purchase option, which will be activated if Nantes maintains its league position, and is accompanied by a percentage on resale.

Kadewere, who recently agreed to a one-year extension on the same terms to avoid leaving on a free transfer, remains under contract with Lyon until June 2025.
