HBA Super Six Gameweek 9 Review: JBC maintain lead, UZ Sparks demolish Fillies

HARARE – As anticipated, Gameweek 9 of the Harare Basketball Association Super Six delivered nothing but fireworks in both the Men’s and Women’s divisions. 

In the games played on January 13 at the Sunrise Sports Club indoor arena, the Men’s log remained unchanged, whilst the explosive action in the Women’s division resulted in some moving and shaking.

Gameweek 9 Wrap: Super Six Men’s 

In the final game of the day, JBC maintained their grip at the top of the leaderboard by way of a tight 50-45 win over Arcadia Bucs. 

Earlier in the day, Basket Hounds massacred UZ Stars 70-35, with Zhomwa contributing 27 points to the tally.

Only 7 points separated Leopards Academy and bottom of the table Mbare Bullets (68-61). Despite losing, Chidzomba of Mbare Bullets delivered a double-double of 23-11-4, playing an impressive 35 minutes. 

The standings remain unchanged in the Men’s division. JBC and Basket Hounds jumped two points to 16 and 14 respectively. Leopards Academy collected 2 points to end Gameweek 9 at 13 points, tied with Arcadia Bucs. Mbare Bullets sit at the bottom with 9 points. 

Gameweek 9 Wrap: Women’s

Whilst the college boys were walloped, the college girls brought the action in the first game of the day, scoring a whopping 84 points versus Fillies, who managed just 18. UZ Sparks’ Tadiwa Mabika was the star of the show, scoring 28 points. 

It was a bad day on the court for Fillies who then got pummelled 62-26 by Vixens in their second game of the day. Vixens’ Tracy Tseure went home with an impressive 21-6-4.

In a shocker, JBC couldn’t manage a single point, giving the game away to Bunnies, who managed just 20 points. 

The loss knocks them down to third, as they are overtaken by Vixens. UZ Sparks maintains its lead with 18 points, whilst Harare City Hornets anchors the standings.

Gameweek 10 Preview  

Gameweek 10 will be played at the home of Harare basketball, Sunrise Sports Club this Saturday. Games start at 1000. 

First up is JBC, who’ll be looking to redeem themselves, up against Fillies. Bottom Harare City Hornets take on leaders UZ Sparks. Second place Vixens are matched up with fifth place Bunnies.  

In the men’s division, UZ Stars will be looking to get back to winning ways when they face Mbare Bullets. Basket Hounds are up against Arcadia Bucs, while Leopards Academy take on log leaders JBC.
