HBA Super Six Gameweek 10 Review: Mbare Bulls Bounce Back; UZ Sparks, Vixens continue winning ways

HARARE — As the HBA Super Six League rages on, Gameweek 10 was a mixed bag of the usual(in the Women’s Division), and some surprises(in the Men’s Division). 

Despite the explosive action as always, both standings remained unchanged after the games played at Sunrise Sports Club in Belvedere on Saturday 20 January.

Gameweek 10 — Continued dominance and surprises 


Gameweek 10 Wrap: Super Six Men’s

Having won just one game in 9 Gameweeks, Mbare Bulls shook off their cobwebs in Gameweek 10 and delivered an 80-35 thrashing of out-of-form UZ Stars. The victory was a team effort, with 5 players scoring more than 10 points each. 

Chidzomba took the highest points at 13. T Chaphika managed 12 points. Tichaona Chinyanganya and Warren Tegama went home with 11 points each. James Makanjera completed the double-digits points with 10 points. 

Basket Hounds continued on their good run of form, winning 79-66 over Arcadia Bucs. Innocent Zhomwa was the star of the show, playing 36 minutes whilst managing 28 points and 8 rebounds.

Leaders JBC maintained their dominance in the Super Six with a 65-55 win over Leopards Academy. Rolland Changara managed 3 three pointers to end the day with 14 points, tied with teaamate Noah Penduka

JBC’s 10-point win over Leopards Academy was enough for them to maintain their lead with 18 points and a game in hand.

Basket Hounds are second, with 16 points, and followed closely by Acardia Bucs, who also have a game in hand, at 14 points. 

Mbare Bulls’ heroics in Gameweek 10 lifted them to 11 points, one point behind fifth placed UZ Stars.

Gameweek 10 Wrap: Super Six Women’s

In the first game of the day, Fillies bounced back to winning ways with a 38-20 win over out-of-form JBC. 

Log leaders UZ Sparks demolished bottom of the table Harare City Hornets 61-21. No surprises there. 

Happiness Maroto played an impressive 38 minutes, taking home 19 points. 

Second placed Vixens managed the highest points tally of the day with a 62-51 win over Bunnies.

Good form — Vixens just can't stop winning


Charity Mucucuti was the most outstanding player on the Vixens roster with 18 points and 8 rebounds.

With yet another win, log leaders UZ Sparks stretched their tally to 20 points, maintaining their three-point lead over second placed Vixens, who stand at 17 points. 

JBC and Fillies are now tied at 14 points, but JBC clutches on to third position by way of a higher average(A/B) than Fillies. 

Bunnies and Harare City Hornets remain at the bottom of the table with 11 and 9 points respectively. 

Gameweek 11 Preview

Gameweek 11 will be played at the home of Harare basketball, Sunrise Sports Club this Saturday. Games start at 1000.

In the Women’s division, easy-beats Harare City Hornets and Bunnies are up against each other in the first game of the day. 

Log leaders UZ Sparks take on JBC, who will be looking to recover from a slump in form.

In a Gameweek 9 rematch, Fillies battle Vixens. The last time they met, Vixens dominated a tired Fillies, who had already been walloped by UZ Sparks. Fillies will be hoping to capitalise on their triumph over JBC and cause an upset.

In the Men’s division, Leopards Academy go head to head with UZ Stars at 1600.  

Bottom of the table Mbare Bulls have been recharged by their win over UZ Stars and will be looking to get one up over Basket Hounds. 

In the final game of the day, Arcadia Bucs are matched up against log leaders. JBC.
