In a significant development in the cricketing world, top-order batsman Nick Welch has parted ways with Leicestershire, paving the way for his international career with Zimbabwe. The 25-year-old cricketer, who has been a part of the English county cricket circuit for three years since signing with Leicestershire in September 2020, is now set to make his mark on the international stage.

Welch’s cricketing journey began in earnest in 2014 when he made his first-class debut in a match between Mashonaland Eagles and Mountaineers. His recent stint with the Mashonaland Eagles as an overseas player and his participation in the Durban Qalandars squad, which clinched victory in the inaugural Zim Afro T10 tournament, have further bolstered his cricketing credentials.
The Harare-born cricketer has already made his presence felt on Zimbabwe’s cricket landscape. His robust performance for Uprising in a NPL T20 match against Takashinga Patriots 2, where he scored a solid 42, is testament to his potential.
In other news, all-rounder Ryan Burl and fast bowler Richard Ngarava are set to participate in this year’s edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), having been drafted to the Sylhet Strikers.
However, it was not all smooth sailing for Zimbabwean cricketers. All-rounders Sikandar Raza and Sean Williams faced disappointment in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Their team, St Lucia Kings, suffered a five-wicket defeat to the Jamaica Tallawahs in an eliminator encounter.
As we look forward to Welch’s international career with Zimbabwe, it’s clear that the cricketing world is set for some exciting times ahead.
