UN chief praises Zimbabwe's President Mnangagwa for re-election and gender equality efforts


Zimbabwe's President Emmerson Mnangagwa has received a congratulatory letter from the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who commended him for his re-election and his efforts to promote gender equality in the country.

Guterres said he looked forward to working closely with Mnangagwa and his government to "accelerate development and ensure inclusive and sustainable economic growth, gender equality, human rights and climate action in Zimbabwe."

The UN chief also acknowledged Zimbabwe's efforts to advance the political participation of women and encouraged Mnangagwa to promote gender parity in Cabinet and senior appointments.

"I wish to congratulate you on your re-election as President of the Republic of Zimbabwe," Guterres wrote in the letter dated Friday.
