Leo Magozz starts 2026 on a brighter note with the love-soaked Afro-dancehall anthem ‘Ndiye’ featuring Jnr Spragga

TAKUDZWA HILLARY CHIWANZA

Leo Magozz is one interesting person in Zimbabwe's creative circles. For the simple reason that not much appreciation is afforded to him for his immense musical abilities, given at some point he risked being written off into oblivion. His tenacity is a marvel, truly, and he has been on an admirable journey of redefining his sound and identity, with varying degrees of success of course. His latest single Ndiye with dancehall prodigy Jnr Spragga is an attestation of the steady progression he has been assiduously working on.

Leo Magozz launches 2026 with ‘Ndiye’ featuring Jnr Spragga, a love-driven Afro-dancehall anthem produced by LXA.

The feeling is that things are starting to make sense for him again. Ndiye comes as a reassuring statement that Leo Magozz is here to stay. He has never been away. 2025 was a pivotal year for him, as he gradually got his traction; releasing a couple of singles that were backed by an easily comprehensible meaning: growth, consistency, and audience alignment are the hallmark features of an artist immersed in self-awareness.

And this has culminated in this latest single, in which Leo Magozz and Jnr Spragga revel in a chemistry that feels natural, intentional, and timely. Produced by the ever-brilliant LXA, the single is a heartwarming ode to romance in its most innocuous sense – with an instrumental that interpolates Sean Kingston's classic Why U Wanna Go. It creates a sonic template that is easy on the ear, soaked with love declarations in which the motif is devoid of prevarications – the woman in question "is the one" (that's what the word "ndiye" in this context translates to).

With Jnr Spragga’s youthful energy and Leo Magozz’s smooth emotional delivery, the collaboration reflects a new generation of Zimbabwean artists confidently shaping sound, love stories, and culture on their own terms. And LXA's mastery can never be understated in this regard. His production is full of life and exuberance. What perhaps remains to be seen though is whether Leo Magozz can sustain this momentum as the year progresses. But given the confidence exuded in this latest single, there is little room for doubt that he has the mettle to be a mainstay in Zimbabwe's musical discourse.
