Chipinge mother sentenced for burning her four-year-old daughter’s privates

CHIPINGE – A 27-year-old woman from Kopera village in Chipinge was sentenced to 24 months imprisonment, with 12 months suspended for five years by the Chipinge Magistrates' Court on charges of ill-treating a child after she burned her four-year-old daughter's genital area.

The remaining 12 months were suspended on the condition that she performs 480 hours of community service at a public institution.

The incident in question occurred on the 6th of March 2024, when the accused person accused her four-year-old daughter of having inappropriate relations with a seven-year-old boy.

In a fit of rage, the mother burnt her daughter's genital area with a burning piece of firewood that she pulled out from the fire. 

The child sustained burns on her genital area as a result of this horrific act.

The matter was reported to the police by the child's father, leading to the arrest and subsequent sentencing of the accused person.
